Janet Fischer (Soprano)
Canadian soprano Janet Fischer first began her musical training on
the violin at the age of three. She started studying voice at the
age of 15 and is currently undertaking her MPhil at the RNCM where
she studies with Barbara Robotham.
Janet's previous engagements include the Witch in Dvorak's Rusalka,
and the trilogy of Mozart's Da Ponte operas; playing Dorabella in
Cosi fan Tutte, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and the Countess in Le
Nozze di Figaro for the George-Hahle Academy of Music Janet made her
debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2004 as a soloist in H.K. Gruber's
Frankenstein! with the RNCM New Ensemble. She enjoys working on
chamber music, and recently performed in Shostakovich's Seven Verses
of Alexander Blok with the Harris Trio, and ; Yanov-Yanovsky's
Lacrymosa with the Martindale Quartet; for the RNCM Shostakovich and
his Comrades festival.
More recently, Janet has sung Magnificat (Bach) with the Otley and
Ilkley choral societies and the St. John Passion (Bach) with the St.
Peter's Singers.. A regular participant in masterclasses, she has
worked with Jane Eaglen, Lynne Dawson, Theodore Baerg, Richard
Crawley, Nelly Miricioui, Julius Drake, Janos Furst, Claudio Desderi
and others. She has sung in the finals of both the Frederic Cox
Prize and the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of
Strauss. She was also a semi-finalist at the Third China (Ningbo)
International Vocal Competition in October 2005 and the Wilhelm
Stenhammar International Music Competition in June 2006.
