It is with great sadness that we announce that, Michael Hamm, our Deputy Music Director died on the September 1st.
He will be greatly missed by the whole choir.

Michael Hamm was born in West Kirby. He sang in Blackburn Cathedral Choir as a treble and was educated at St Paul's School, London. He studied conducting under Norman Del Mar and Robert Barclay Wilson at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he later became a Professor of Conducting.
Michael has conducted a wide range of orchestras and choirs in the UK and in Continental Europe. He has directed Opera and Musicals, some in the West End. He has conducted both the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Scottish Symphony orchestras. He had the honour of conducting before the Queen at the City of London Festival. Michael was conductor for the Finchley Choral Society for sixteen years before retiring from the London musical scene and returning to West Kirby. Michael was deputy musical director of the Hoylake Choral Society for over ten years. He conducted the choir on many occasions when Jim, our director, was unavoidably absent. He seemed to take a particular delight when he regularly conducted both choir and audience at our annual carol concerts.

The funeral will take place at the Landican crematorium on Friday 10th of September at 10:30am.

We are a friendly, enthusiastic society and we have been singing in Hoylake since 1948.

Our concerts, normally two per year, are held locally and are a mix of traditional repertoire and more modern works. We also sing a family carol concert every year before Christmas.

If you enjoy singing, a warm welcome awaits you at our rehearsals on any Wednesday evening (September-May) in Hoylake Chapel Hall. We are particularly in need of more tenors and basses. We do not hold auditions. Enthusiasm and love of music is more important to us than technical excellence. Nevertheless we strive to achieve quality performances and we like to think we are usually successful. Details relating to joining and information for members is given on the Membership page.

N.B. Rehearsals for the new 2010/11 season start on Wednesday, 8th., September at 8pm.

Even if you can't join us as a singer, an equally warm welcome awaits you as a member of the audience at any of our concerts. For details of our forthcoming and past concerts see the Concerts page.
