Hoylake Choral
society is affiliated to making music (the National Federation of Music Societies). The regional details are
to be found at Making
Music North West.
We also have an entry on the Gerontius UK choir portal site.
We have friendly collaborative relations with
Birkenhead Choral Society
Formby Choral Society.
and the Wirral Symphony Orchestra.
We share many members with Hoylake
Chamber Music Society.
Note learning aides for the music we sing can often be found at sites such as Cyberbass or CVI choral Midi (This site is
run by a French Choir). An extensive collection of rehearsal aids is also maintained by John Hooper.
These provide midi versions of much choral music that can be played by
computer as a guide to various parts.
Alternative choral practice files
are available for some of the works sung by HCS in a form that displays
the music in normal notation while playing it back. The
progress through the score is indicated during playback by a moving
line. This form of aid makes use of music notation software, rather
like a "word processor" for music, called Mozart.
A great number of choral scores are freely available on the internet from sites such as Choral Public Domain Library. N.B. we include these links in the hope they might be found useful. We have
not made any careful evaluation of them and their inclusion is in no way a
formal endorcement by the society.
It is our practice to take a collection at each of our concerts. Over
the years these have allowed us to make sustantial contributions to
local charities including Hoylake
Cottage Hospital and Wirral Heart Beat. Our current charity is Crossroads Care.
Most of our publicity material and concert programmes are designed and
printed by Jon Tarrant.
Most of our concerts and rehearsals make use of the Hoylake Chapel and hall.
This web site is hosted by Liverpool
John Moores University.
We not infrequently employ soloists from the
Royal Northern College of Music.
