Rehearsals
are held on Wednesday
evenings from 8:00pm. until about
9:45pm., starting in September and continuing into May. We
rehearse in
the Hoylake Chapel
Hall, which is next to the Chapel proper, on the corner of Station Road
and Meols Drive, Hoylake.
Music is
provided or
members may purchase their own copies, which the society can often
obtain at discounted rates.
There is a subscription for members
of £60,
(a concession rate of £55 applies for pensioners and each member
of a couple if both join, the unemployed rate is £30, and
students free).
The subscription covers the cost of running the society, which includes
the hire of the rehearsal hall and music. It is payable by October each
season.
We normally
perform two main concerts each year, one
in November and the
second towards the end of April. We also stage a Family Carol Concert
in December; this is usually with the help of a choir
from a local school.
Details of our concert programme can be
found on the Concerts page.
Concert dress is long-sleeved white (not cream) blouse without glitter, long black
skirt or black trousers and black shoes for the ladies,
and
dinner jacket or dark suit, white shirt, black shoes and black bow tie for the
gentlemen.
In order to plan the stage
layout effectively, the stage manager needs to know well in advance who
intends to sing in the concert. Members will be asked to inform their
respective part registrar during rehearsals of their intention. Only
those members committed to sing in the concert should attend the final
two rehearsals that are held in the concert staging location.
These last two rehearsals are critical both musically and to enable the
stage seating to be finalised before the concert.
All members, whether intending to sing in the concert or not, are
welcome to join in the fun of the rehearsals except for the final
"dress rehearsals".
Members are asked to
bring a pencil to rehearsals so they can reversably annotate their
parts if necessary. Members using hired music should return the hired
copies to the Librarian at the end of the concert or brfore if they are
not singing.
If you think you might like to join us just come
along to one of our
rehearsals and introduce yourself to the membership secretary or one of the people wandering about
(probably arranging chairs or handing out books, etc.). However, if you
would like some more information first, contact the
